Finally, one for them

Football at their size

Almost nothing about football is built for a three-year-old. The match runs past bedtime, and ninety minutes is about eighty-five more than they have in them.

This is the first bit that is actually theirs. The whole of Stamford Bridge, in their lap, whenever they ask for it.

Hear the commentator

Every page has its own match commentary, made for kids. Here is a taste of each one.

Previews here are a few seconds long. On the book, every page plays for about a minute.

New Fans In Action

Before You Ask

What actually pops up?

Five spreads, and every one of them stands up when you open it. The stadium, the teams coming out, the challenge that stops the game, the free kick with the wall in front of it, and the ball going in. It builds itself as they turn the pages.

What does the sound do?

There is a button on every page, and a commentator calls that moment: what just happened, and why. He explains what a foul is, why the referee walks backwards, what the wall is standing there for. It is the match described by the man on the microphone, not a chant and not a sound effect.

What language is the commentary in?

English, all the way through. It was recorded for children, so it is a real match voice pitched at a five-year-old rather than a broadcast one.

What age is it for?

Three and up, and it holds until about seven. The younger ones are in it for the pop-ups and the buttons. The older ones start listening to what the commentator is actually telling them.

Can I turn it down, or off?

Both. There is a volume control and an on-off switch, so it can be loud on a Saturday afternoon and quiet in the back of the car.

Does it need batteries?

AAA, already in it. It works the moment you open the box.
